I've been bugging Dave to let me shoot him in action since last July. He spends most of his summer weekends racing down mountains all over the eastern US. Luckily we managed to finally get together before the race season begins this year. Hopefully I can make it to some of those closer races to shoot some of the action.
I hadn't scouted the location out beforehand, so I wasn't sure what I was in for or how much of hike it would be. Not knowing this, I freighted the car with everything I would like to put to use including strobes and all associated items. We went out to the trail and I left the lighting gear behind to see what was in store. The hike itself wasn't too bad, but lugging multiple rollers along with a very heavy backpack made it a bit of a challenge. We reached the beginning of the trail and I said there was no way I was lugging the strobes out there so we started shooting good ole natty light. We then worked our way down the trail, shooting in various locations. Once we got about 3/4 of the way down the trail I eyed a nice spot that was begging to be lit. So, we trekked back to the car to get a bunch more gear. I really wasn't looking forward to it, but I really wanted to setup some lights to really set things off. I was hoping it would be worth the effort. I'm not one to be lazy about this stuff and I try as best I can to set myself apart from everyone else. Hopefully the added leg soreness was worth the extra effort in the end.
I've laid them out as best I could from top to bottom starting with natural light then the strobed stuff. Let me know which you prefer.
I'm torn between natural & strobed, honestly they all look great. Maybe next time I can be your apprentice and help lug gear.
ReplyDeleteThanks Remi. Haha...luggers are always welcome!
ReplyDeletemy brother in law looks amazing i love all the pics but the one of him really close up with the determanation in his face says it all even though it was only practice...love you Dave great Pictures...
ReplyDeleteGreat photos Chad! Mind if I ask what lens you're shooting with?
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you carry around more gear than I own, haha!
it was the 6th from the top.
ReplyDeleteJess, it's entirely possible. It's not just the amount of gear that can be an issue, but the weight of said gear. I ended up using three lenses on the day- 400, 200 & a 24-70.
ReplyDeletePaula, that's one of my faves as well.
ya they all came out amazing but that one i love the best...you did a awesome job capturing him at hiss best...hopefully he'll have more...keep up the great work...
