Firstly, I'd like to give a huge thank you to Nate Osgood, Marcus Corey and everyone else over at the New Life Church that I wasn't in direct contact with who put this event together. These people worked their tails off for quite a while to get this to go right and it showed. They had music, screens setup inside and outside with live feeds, and much more. You might think this was just something thrown together in the corner of a parking lot just for fun, but it was much more than that. It was a full on production put on for the kids to have fun and enjoy themselves while staying safe.
You may not have even known it was taking place. I myself didn't find out about it until the day before it was going to go down. That didn't leave me much time to brainstorm about what I wanted to bring and how I wanted to set it up. Luckily Nate set aside a few minutes of his day to give me the rundown and show me the setup. That allowed me to think about it overnight and start putting my gear together. All I can say is that if you missed it this year, be sure to be on the look out for it next year. I know I'm going to wish for them to consider bringing me back!
On top of everything they had Olympic rider and Amazing Race star Andy Finch on had to do the commentating and give a talk. It was a bit on the cold and windy side, but it was well worth it.
I was equally excited and anxious to shoot this. I've shot plenty of sports, I've shot at night, and I'm well versed in strobbing, but I hadn't combined all three at the same time. This was something that I've wanted to do for some time now. My only complaint has to do with a piece of my gear, which was very frustrating. The triggers I was using for my strobes weren't firing anywhere near 100% of the time as they should have. This meant that many of my shots were garbage, unfortunately. This forced me to adapt as best I could to make it work, but I had to make some sacrifices to do so. I still came away with more than enough images I feel. I'll share some of my favorite photos here.
