What a difference a day makes. After wanting to poke my eyes out from shooting in the dungeon (TA Basketball) the night before, I was very surprised to see how well lit the ice arena was. It looked like they had recently updated the lighting to some T5 fixtures which is as close to heaven as I'm going to get. I was able to nail the white balance pretty easily which made processing these images a breeze.
Now, the challenge was finding a decent vantage point. I tried to squeeze in some shots through the doorway onto the benches, but between all the sticks and players it didn't work very well. I then tried my luck at shooting through the glass which I wasn't pleased with. That left me with the balcony area above the benches. This area was pretty packed so I waited for the break between the first two periods and made my way up. I'm used to being as close to the ground as possible and shooting up into the eyes so this aerial shooting angle was odd for me. It's nearly impossible to get the players faces in the shots. At any rate, here are some of my images from the varsity game. I may or may not share some JV images.
