Well, if you've known me long enough you know that I've spent a huge amount of my life with a bicycle between my legs. I recently decided to get back to my roots and get myself onto an authentic grown up bike as often as possible. I was lucky enough to trade some redundant photo equipment that I had lying around for this piece. We've had quite a few decent days lately so I've been taking advantage of them as much as possible and gone out riding.
I'll be the first to admit that I was always one of those people that criticized those damn road cyclists for riding on the streets and not using the bike paths and or sidewalks. Well, now that I've spent a good amount of time riding one of these I've figured out why...or so I think. Having always been on a bmx style of bike with 20" or 24" inch fatty tires and a pretty absorbent ride I never had a problem riding and jumping off of sidewalks. Well, here's the thing with these grown up bikes. You're riding on a bike that weighs less than twenty pounds, and has these tiny tires with 120psi of air in them. This equates to a pretty unforgiving ride over any uneven pavement. What this means is that riding on brick sidewalks and over driveway cutouts can take a toll on your body over the course of a ride. So.....we ride on the streets! That being said.....share the road please :)
Here are a few pics of the bike before the ride today:
Should I lose the stickers on the wheels?
