ReplyDeleteI was going to guess Saco Island until I saw the removed clock tower and realized it was the Lincoln Mill...bet you didn't know the name of it!
ReplyDeleteThe clock tower is obviously a dead giveaway. It's sort of like having the answer to a question printed upside down at the bottom of a printed page.
ReplyDeleteI did know the name of it actually. I still remember reading the article where the city didn't want them to remove the tower stating that it was a key piece of history. They feared that it would never go back up. They assured the city that they wanted to restore it and it would remain. What a joke. It hasn't been touched since they lowered it.
The property has changed ownership since the clock tower was taken down. I don't know what the new ownerships intentions are but I can assure you that we will never see the clock tower restored to its previous condition and location back when the area was bustling and Biddeford was an industrial power house.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't cosidered the ownership issue. Don't be so glum about the current state of your city as compared to the glory days of long ago . You still have your motto: "A proud city rising where the water falls." Rise up!
