King of Flatland 25th Anniversary: Rye Airfield Skatepark

I spent Saturday afternoon shooting and reminiscing in Rye, NH at the King of Flatland 25th Anniversary.  When I was a kid and the original events were taking place, I would have been in heaven to have attended one.  This stuff was pretty much my life as a child. For a lot of these guys, these 20" bikes still play a large roll in their lives and they are even passing it on to their kids, which I think is really cool.

Kids these days just don't do this kind of thing anymore.  They're too busy with the technology aspects of their lives to actually get outside and be active.  What I would have given to slip an ipod into my pocket rather than strap on a walkman back in the day though!  Here are some of my favorite images from the afternoon.

Edit: I also have these posted over on my new photo blog which is more pleasing to the eye here:

  2. Everyone on the NE Flatland Facebook page is loving them. Do/did you ride? And are you related to a Justin Doyon (and why do I remember that name — did he do a 'zine)?

  3. I'm glad to hear it, thanks for sharing! Flatland was my life from 87-92. I now have a road bike and a 24" cruiser. Itching to get back on a 20". Time really isn't on my side though. No relation to Justin...never heard of him.
