Hot Summer Days

With Meghan home all summer for Allison, Caitlyn has been able to skip out on going to summer camp with the Saco Rec. Department. She recently received a shipment from Amazon containing a bunch of books that she picked up for her birthday (13). Needless to say she's had her face buried in the pages of these books for the bulk of these hot summer days doing what she loves best.

Now, if I've done my job right the thought that these aren't actually lit by the sun hasn't even crossed your mind. The fact is that the sun was well into sunset mode at this point and these are indeed lit with strobes. For the backlit shots I have a strobe at the top of the stairs with a 30deg. grid attached. For the front lit shots I have a large softbox right up against the screen door.

Bonus picture! I was admiring Allison the other day chilling out in her swing when I got this crazy idea. I had a cute moving object right in front of me.....perfect excuse to practice some panning shots! I know...such a geek. Anyway, here is an example. The idea behind panning is to follow the subject with your camera at the same speed so that your subject is in focus and the rest of the frame is blurred giving the sense of movement. I must admit that the short swing span was pretty hard to follow.
